JAMES F WRIGHT

Originally from Seattle, Washington, James F. Wright is a gifted singer-songwriter known for his distinctively original voice and deeply expressive musical style. With an uncanny ability to translate life’s emotions into sound, James crafts songs that tell stories—songs that linger in the heart and invite listeners to connect through their own life experiences.

“I believe a song that tells a story stays with you—it resonates as you imprint your own life onto it,” James says. “The right song can give you vision and hope.” His songwriting draws from the people and moments that have shaped his life, creating authentic and powerful compositions grounded in experience.

A seasoned performer, James has shared his music with a wide range of audiences—from intimate evening shows for artisan gatherings to inspiring performances for high school students at lunchtime. His professional music journey began in 1980, performing in San Francisco’s downtown hotels and restaurants along the Avenues.

In the early 1990s, James began working with producer Terry Choate in Nashville and became a 25-year member of the Nashville Chapter of NARAS (National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences/The GRAMMYs). In 1995, Jerry Earl Johnston of The Deseret News dubbed him simply: “The Voice.”

With the 2020 release of Acoustic Cafe: The First Set, Johnston praised Wright’s ability to breathe new life into familiar songs:

“Wright takes some old chestnuts and gives them a delicious roasting here. This CD is not one you play in the background as you eat. This one is the main course.”

In October 2022, James followed up with his sixth studio album, Acoustic Cafe: The Second Set, a collaboration with acclaimed arranger and guitarist Michael Dowdle, further showcasing his signature blend of heart, harmony, and storytelling.
